Letter Tracing A–Z
Free printable letter tracing worksheets — dashed A–Z outlines on a four-line grid, uppercase or lowercase. Generate a fresh set of letters, print on A4 or save as PDF.
From first pencil grip to confident letters
Letter formation is muscle memory: the model letter shows where to start, the dashed outlines pace the strokes, and the empty boxes test whether the letter really lives in the hand yet. Eight letters per page keeps the session short enough for preschool attention spans — print the whole alphabet as a booklet, or one targeted page for the letters that keep coming out backwards.
Pair tracing practice with the counting worksheets for a full early-learning pack, or warm up little hands with the random letter generator on screen before pencil hits paper.
FAQ
What are all the different letters on each row?
Each row shows the same letter four ways of looking at it: the solid gray letter is the model to copy, the dashed outlines are for tracing over with a pencil, and the empty boxes at the end are for writing it freehand — no tracing lines to lean on.
Uppercase or lowercase first?
Start with uppercase: the letters are bigger, mechanically simpler (no connecting strokes) and all the same height on the grid. Move to lowercase once pencil control is there — the four-line grid helps there too, because lowercase letters have a clear midline they live under, and tails (g, p, q, y) that hang below the dashed line.
What is the four-line grid for?
The lines give letters a consistent skeleton: the top line caps capitals and tall letters (b, d, k, l), the middle line is where most lowercase letters stop, the base line is where every letter sits, and the dashed line below shows how far the tails of descender letters hang. It is the same ruling classic handwriting workbooks use.
Can we practice the whole alphabet?
Yes — keep the order set to "A–Z in order" and print page after page: the first page covers A–H, the next I–P, and so on. Switch to "Random letters" for revision once all the letters have been introduced; every press of "New sheet" draws a fresh set.
How do I print a worksheet or get a PDF?
Press "Download PDF" above the sheet to save a ready-to-print A4 file, or press "Print" to open your browser's print dialog and print it right away. Turning off the browser's "Headers and footers" option gives you the cleanest page.
Are these worksheets free? Can I use them in my classroom?
Yes — every worksheet on ClassCaddy is free for personal and classroom use: homework, math stations, morning work, tutoring, homeschool. You can print as many copies as you need. The only thing you can't do is sell the sheets or republish them as your own.
