Match the chart to your room
Set rows × columns to your real layout (up to 10×10). The generator deals your students into random seats and leaves genuinely empty chairs blank — so a 4×6 grid for a class of 20 shows 4 empty seats exactly where they are in your room.
Need a specific student at the front, or two students apart? Click one student, then another, to swap any pair of seats before printing.
Print-ready output
The Print button strips the page down to a clean one-page chart labeled “Front of room / board”. Tape it to the podium or drop it in your substitute folder. Regenerate any time for a fresh, unbiased shuffle — pairs nicely with the group generator when the seating chart is old news.

How do I generate a random seating chart?
Type or paste student names, set the number of rows and columns to match your room, then press Generate layout. Every student gets a random seat; extra seats stay blank.
Can I fix individual seats?
Yes — click a student, then click another student to swap their two seats. Regenerating reshuffles everyone again.
Can I print the seating chart?
Yes — the Print button produces a clean, black-and-white chart with the front of the room labeled, sized to fit one page.
Does it work with my saved class roster?
Yes — load any saved class from the roster bar, then generate. Save rosters once in the roster center and reuse them here, in the wheel, groups and scoreboard.
Why randomize seating at all?
Random seating reduces cliques and fixed vantage points, gives every student a turn at the front, and is an evidence-friendly way to mix talk partners. Many teachers reshuffle monthly or at the start of each unit.
